Sit at the Feet of the Greats!

I am a firm believer that reading plays such a vital role in our personal growth. When we read, we get to sit at the feet and listen to great women and men talk about their experiences, their stories, their perspectives, their successes, their failures.

Many of my thoughts about money and finance are from Robert Kyosaki and Tony Robbins. I’ve applied what I’ve learned from them based on what I’ve read in their books, especially Kyosaki. These guys charge megabucks to speak with them one-on-one, but their books are cheap, and enormously valuable. I can look at my bookshelf and point out books that have changed my point of view for the better regarding business and life…books that have caused me to question my own beliefs and challenged long-held assumptions.

I know this. And yet sometimes, I just don’t read. I have plenty TO read, but I don’t find the time. I don’t MAKE the time. What’s my solution?

Make the time. Schedule it. Starting this week, I am taking more seriously the task of reading. Instead of leaving a book lying around and haphazardly getting to it when I have down time (or toilet time), I am putting a one hour block in my schedule to turn off my phone, shut everything down, and for one solid hour, read. And learn.

It makes total sense, right? I schedule everything else, why not this? I don’t let workouts go to chance “when I have time.” I don’t have staff meetings when I feel like it.

Things that are important, we should be putting on our schedule. Including time for ourselves. My morning routine is on my schedule. I block off one hour per morning to journal and think and ask questions and get in a peak state. I don’t want to make the time to read an hour each day, but I could absolutely find an hour each week.

Schedule your reading. Change your life by hanging out with people more brilliant than you. Learn from others. Sit down with them and let them speak to you. Often these people charge thousands for consulting or for a seminar on the same subject. But with a book, you get to hear them for only $20. What a deal!

One hour. Turn everything off. Get by yourself. And feed your soul. Enjoy.
