Keep Being Good to People

They all had HUGE smiles on their faces.

Maybe it was because for part of the night I swapped tops with a staff member (the top was so pretty)…

But they were all laughing, carrying on, and having a good time as they left. It was an amazing party, and it made me feel so good to host it.

Our staff appreciation dinner party was an enormous success, and as everyone left, I felt unbelievably grateful for the experience and thought to myself:

Keep being good to people. Keep being good to your team.

I loved that we had a staff appreciation dinner, and I loved that it cost me a bunch of cash. I’ll never miss that money. And that night… a lot of people will remember it for a long time ❤️

I loved seeing the relationships that were strengthened, I loved laughing with everyone, and I loved being generous with their gifts.

Keep being good to your students. I love my students. I love it that they believe in our mission and they want to work hard. I love it that they trust us to do a good job for them, and I’m honored to be chosen to lead them. I love seeing them grow. I love seeing them struggle, work, fail, battle through obstacles, and then come out victorious. So many life skills being taught that they don’t even know.

Keep being good to your family. That’s where you came from. At the end of the day, who cares what you have created, built, or accomplished? When it’s all said and done, what does your family think about you? Are they proud of you? Do they love and support you? Are you still just little Don-Don to them? I hope so ❤️

Keep being good to strangers. People walking out of grocery stores, smile and say hi. Random people that you spend 20 seconds with, compliment them in some way. The driver who cuts you off and is unnecessarily aggressive on the road? Shouting and cursing does nothing. Showing patience and forgiveness—it changes you for the better. Be kind. Practice kindness and warmth. The world needs more kind, gracious human beings, not more assholes.

I love the rocking chair analogy. Pretend you’re 80 years old, 90 years old, and it’s the end of your life. You’re sitting in a rocking chair on your front porch, reminiscing. Thinking about your life. Sure, we all want to be comfortable and have things. But I have to imagine that we will be more proud and grateful for the relationships that we fostered, nurtured, and created than how much money we have in the bank.

The irony is, you don’t have to choose. Want to make more money? Add more value to the people around you. Have a business? Ask, How can I serve my clients and prospects at the highest level possible, and give to them and be good to them, as I work my craft?

Kindness pays big dividends. Gratitude changes lives. Those who want to give and serve humanity with whatever gifts they have…those are the ones who win.

Keep being good to people ❤️
